In 2014 we decided that we had to act to conserve our Parquet Wooden floor around our staircase. Recognizing that we were working with a truly unique piece of craftsmanship which was built in a totally different era, a piece of history displaying a craft at it’s very highest level.
We received great assistance from Wexford County Council, they guided us towards the Built Heritage Jobs Leverage scheme and worked with us through all stages of the Conservation process.
Our main goal was to do everything in our power to maintain the floor and return it to its former glory. This involved treating every individual piece of timber as a separate job in itself. The section we are dealing with has over 10,000 pieces altogether, some as small as 5mm square!
